Brainrot Buddy · Android app

Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what Brainrot Buddy: Reels Counter & Digital Wellbeing (“App”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) handles, where it is kept, and what you can do about it.

Last updated: November 6, 2026

Privacy at a glance

Your usage history stays on your phone unless you turn on sharing with friends and family, which is optional and off by default. With sharing on, one small set of daily totals is sent to our sharing server so the people in your groups can see it, and is deleted when you stop. Screen contents, messages and accessibility events are never uploaded. On the free plan after the trial, Google AdMob shows ads inside the App (never over other apps, no banners); a subscription removes them. No analytics or crash-reporting SDKs. Google handles sign-in, payment and ads. You can delete your data inside the App at any time.

01About the App

Brainrot Buddy is a digital-wellbeing application for Android. It shows how long supported short-video apps were open on your phone, estimates how many short videos you watched, and offers goals, reminders, optional app blocking and a mascot to help you scroll less.

The App can be used as a guest. Signing in with Google is optional, and is needed only for sharing your daily totals with friends and family, described in section 6.

02Usage Time

If you turn on Usage Access for Brainrot Buddy in Android settings, the App reads how long these apps were open on your phone: Instagram, YouTube, Snapchat, Facebook and TikTok, and any other apps you add for tracking in Settings. To let you choose those, the App lists the apps on your phone that have a launcher icon, with their names and icons; that list stays on your phone. It reads nothing about any app you have not chosen, and nothing about what you did inside any app.

From that time, the App estimates how many short videos you watched. This is an estimate, and the App labels it as one.

Stored: one row per app per day (minutes open, estimated count, how it was estimated), on your phone. Only the daily totals described in section 6 ever leave it, and only if you turn sharing on.

03Swipe Counting, Live Bubble and Blocking

“Count swipes”, the live bubble and “Block apps at my limit” are on in the App by default, but none of them does anything until you enable the Brainrot Buddy accessibility service yourself in Android settings, after the App has shown you what the service sees. You can switch each of them off at any time. When on, the service receives window, scroll and screen-change events from the apps on your phone, and the list of app windows on screen, and ignores every app except the ones you track. It uses them to tell that one of the apps you track is open, whether full screen, in split screen, in a pop-up window or in picture-in-picture, and, in Instagram, YouTube, Facebook and Snapchat, whether the short-video player is on screen and when it moves to another video: its position number, or, where the app gives none, that a new video replaced the previous one. It recognises the player by view IDs, sizes and positions. In apps you added for tracking, it looks only for a list that fills the screen with one item per page, by its size and position, to try to count reels there; where it finds none, only the time is shown.

It does not read text, captions, usernames, comments, messages, passwords or anything you type. It does not take screenshots or record the screen.

Live count bubble

While you are using one of the apps you track, the service can draw a small bubble on top of it showing your mascot and today's figures. You can drag the bubble to another place on the screen, and the app remembers where you left it. Tapping the bubble opens Brainrot Buddy; in the “Floating mascot only” style, the first tap shows today's figures and a second tap opens the app. The bubble only reacts to touches on itself, and is not used to read anything you tap or type in the app underneath. It can be switched off in Settings.

Blocking apps at your limit

While “Block apps at my limit” is on (it is by default, with a daily limit of 100 reels until you change it), the service covers the apps you picked with a break screen once today's count reaches your limit, wherever they are on screen. The break screen has two buttons: go to the home screen, or open Brainrot Buddy's payment screen, where a one-time payment through Google Play removes the block until your new day starts (6:00 AM, unless you chose another time in Settings). Those two button presses are the only actions the service ever performs for you. You can change the limit or turn blocking off in the App at any time, at no cost.

Focus timer and strict mode

If you start a focus timer, the service covers every app you track with a break screen until the timer ends. It has one button, go to the home screen, and cannot be stopped early. Strict mode, if you switch it on, locks your daily reel goal and daily time goal until your day resets; it changes nothing the service sees.

Stored: a daily number per app, your blocking settings, the apps you added, and when a focus timer ends, on your phone. No accessibility event or screen content is stored or transmitted.

You can switch all of this off at any time in the App or in Android's accessibility settings.

04Your Answers and Goals

The onboarding answers you give (apps you use, your own estimate of your scrolling, your goals, the mascot style you prefer) and the goals and limits you set are stored on your phone to personalise the App. They are not sent anywhere.

05Google Account

Sign-in is optional. If you sign in, Google shows its own sign-in sheet and returns your Google account email and display name to the App. The App stores those two values on your phone to show which account you are using.

The App does not store your password or Google's sign-in token. Your account details are not sent to any server of ours unless you turn on sharing, described next.

06Sharing with Friends and Family

Sharing is optional and off by default. You can turn it on in the Friends tab in one of two ways: signed in with Google, or as a guest under a nickname you choose. The App explains what is shared before anything is sent.

With Google: Google confirms your account and gives the App a short-lived ID token. The App sends that token once to our sharing server, which checks it with Google and creates your sharing account. The token is not stored on your phone.

As a guest: the App sends only the nickname you typed (2 to 30 characters, no email address or link), and the server creates a guest sharing account with it. A guest account is not linked to Google or to any other account, and it cannot be signed in to from another phone.

What the server holds about you

  • With Google: your Google account identifier and display name. Your email address is not stored on the sharing server and is not shown to other people.
  • As a guest: only the nickname you chose.
  • For each day while sharing is on: your estimated reel count, the time spent in short-video players, the time spent in your connected apps in total, how the count was estimated, your mascot state and your time zone. The phone sends these about once an hour. Daily records older than 30 days are deleted.
  • The groups (such as “Friends” or “Family”) you created or joined, and the invite links you made.

Who sees it

Every member of a group sees the name and the most recent daily totals of every other member of that group. Anyone who has an invite link to a group can join it, so share links only with people you want in it. The owner of a group can remove members; you can leave a group at any time.

What is never shared

Which apps you used, your history on the phone beyond those daily totals, your goals and answers, your email address, and anything on your screen.

Stopping

“Stop sharing” in the Friends tab removes you from every group, deletes the groups you created, and deletes your sharing account and daily records from the server. Signing out of Google pauses sharing with Google on the phone without deleting the server copy; sign in again to continue or to delete it. Sharing as a guest is not affected by signing out of Google.

A guest account lives only on the phone that created it. If you uninstall the App or clear its data without stopping sharing, the guest account can no longer be used; the server deletes it, with its groups and daily records, once its session has gone unused for 180 days.

The App keeps a session token for the sharing server on your phone while sharing is on.

07Subscription, Purchases and Free Trial

Purchases are made through Google Play Billing. Google processes the payment; the App never sees your card or payment details. The App asks Google Play whether you own the subscription and stores the answer and the time it was checked on your phone.

The App also stores the date your free trial started and ended, on your phone. This record is kept even if you delete your other data in the App, so that the trial is offered once. It is removed when you uninstall the App or clear its storage in Android settings.

08Ads (Free Plan Only)

After your free trial, if you do not subscribe, the App shows ads from Google AdMob. Subscribing removes them. There are no ads during the free trial or with a subscription, and none in the live bubble or on the break screen: ads only ever appear inside Brainrot Buddy itself. There are no banner ads.

  • A full-screen ad when you come back to the App, at most once every four hours.
  • A full-screen ad when you open the Stats or Friends tab, at most once every five minutes, and at most six full-screen ads a day.
  • An ad card among the cards on the Home and Stats tabs, labelled “Ad”.

To show and measure ads, Google AdMob receives from your phone: your device's advertising ID, your IP address (from which it can estimate your approximate location), device and app information, and how you interact with the ads. Google uses this as described in its policies, including to prevent fraud. Brainrot Buddy does not give AdMob your usage history, your reel counts, your answers or your account details.

Where the law requires consent for ads, as in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, Google's consent form is shown before any ad is requested, and “Ad privacy choices” in Settings lets you change your choice. You can also reset or delete your advertising ID in Android settings (Privacy > Ads), which limits personalised ads.

10Permissions

Every permission below is optional except internet access, and each is used only as stated.

PermissionWhy the App uses it
Usage AccessTo read how long Instagram, YouTube, Snapchat, Facebook and TikTok were open. Granted by you in Android settings.
Accessibility serviceOnly once you enable it in Android settings: to count swipes, show the live bubble, and show the break screen at your limit or during a focus timer.
NotificationsFor break reminders, which are on by default; you can refuse the permission or switch reminders off.
Internet and network stateGoogle sign-in, Google Play Billing, and, only if you turn sharing on, the sharing server.
Visibility of the five supported appsTo tell which of them are installed, so their icons and names can be shown. No other app is visible to the App.

11What the App Does Not Do

  • It does not sell your data, and shares it only with the people in groups you chose to join, and with Google AdMob as described in section 8.
  • It does not upload screenshots, private messages or accessibility events. Usage figures are uploaded only as the daily totals described in section 6, and only while sharing is on.
  • It shows no ads during the free trial or with a subscription, never shows ads over other apps, has no banner ads, and contains no analytics or crash-reporting SDKs.
  • It does not back up its data to cloud backup or transfer it to a new device.
  • It does not diagnose or assess any medical or psychological condition.

12Third Parties

  • Google Sign-In / Credential Manager, if you choose to sign in.
  • Google Play Billing, if you subscribe, buy a one-time unblock, or restore a purchase.
  • The hosting provider of our sharing server, if you turn on sharing. It stores the data described in section 6 on our behalf.
  • Google AdMob and Google's User Messaging Platform (consent), on the free plan after the trial.

Google's handling of your data is described in Google's Privacy Policy at policies.google.com/privacy.

Instagram, YouTube, Snapchat, Facebook and TikTok are trademarks of their owners. Brainrot Buddy is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by them, and sends nothing to them.

13Keeping and Deleting Your Data

Data on your phone stays there until you delete it. Shared data stays on the sharing server until you stop sharing, as described in section 6. In the App's Settings you can:

  • Delete usage history: removes stored usage time and counts.
  • Delete all my data: removes usage history, onboarding answers, goals, settings, account details and your consent record, and returns the App to its first screen. If sharing is on, it is stopped and your shared data is deleted from the server first; if the server cannot be reached, nothing is deleted and the App tells you so. The trial record described in section 7 is kept.
  • Delete account details: removes the Google account details stored on the phone, and stops sharing and deletes your shared data from the server in the same way.
  • Sign out: removes the Google account details stored on the phone and pauses sharing.

Uninstalling the App removes everything on the phone, including the trial record. It does not delete shared data from the server; use “Stop sharing” first, or contact us at the address below and we will delete it. Step-by-step instructions are on our delete your account page.

To manage your Google account or your subscription, use your Google account and Google Play settings.

14Data Security

Data kept on your phone is held in the App's private storage. The sharing server is reached only over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, and it stores only a hash of your session token.

No device, network or server can be guaranteed to be completely secure. Use a screen lock and current Android security updates, and take care who you send invite links to.

15Children's Privacy

Brainrot Buddy is not directed at children under 13, and is not intended for use by anyone below the minimum age for the apps it measures.

16Changes to This Privacy Policy

If this policy changes in substance, its version changes and the App asks you to review and accept it again. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page shows when it was most recently revised.
